Talk Market - A Video Shopping Service

This is an interesting way to shop for those who would prefer to browse the shelves from the comfort of their home. Talk Market is a television shopping channel hosted by artists, designers, musicians, inventors, and creative retailers personally introducing their creations through videos created on the site. You get the behind-the-scenes story, interesting demonstrations and the opportunity to meet the designer or artist. Would you shop this way? We would be interested to hear from anyone who has used this site or would like to try it out!

Hue Are You?

The American Design Club opened their third exhibit, Hue Are You? last Friday at Future Perfect in Brooklyn. Focusing on the theme of color, the show features a vibrant mix of furniture, jewelry, and revamped found objects from up and coming American designers. The show's theme was color, and the designers did a perfect job of mixing bright hues with fun and quirky objects. The show runs until April 30th, so there's still time to wander through the exhibit and maybe pick up and item or two to support up and coming designers.

Creative Concrete Counter & Surface Materials

Spotted at WebUrbanist - We love this great round up of 10 of the most creative countertop & surface materials, particularly the unique applications for concrete. You can read the entire post here - there are 8 other great installations, however we were intrigued by these two concrete applications:

This concrete surface with embedded fiber optics by Liquid Stone Concrete Designs brightens the cool expanse of gray for surfaces. Paired with modern glass and bright steel, it's an innovative look for loft-like spaces.

The Light Transmitting Concrete by LitraCon is reportedly as strong as traditional concrete, but allows light to pass through it to brighten up what would otherwise be dark, dull rooms. We could see this type of surfaced use for walls and floors as well as countertop surfaces, bringing light and interesting dimension to all areas of the home.

Speaking of mid-century modern... If you dream about owning vintage pieces from the 1950's and 60's - visit Refab: Clinic. They have a bright, fun website featuring all sorts of decorative accessories that they classify as "happy vintage modern home furnishings". The prices are quite affordable - and if you look close enough you might find a little piece of childhood nostalgia hiding on their shelves.

Mid-Century Modern Inspired - MASH Studios LAX Series

We're seeing an increase of mid-century modern design influences on today's furniture and home design. The pieces in the MASH Studios LAX series borrows from that design period, using solid walnut wood and a natural oil finished aluminum in their construction. The platform bed and wall mounted desk are space saving and minimalistic with just a touch of mid-century modern design softening the lines. Currently available for pre-order, the dining set has more of a mid-century modern flair, especially the chairs. More detailed pictures of the pieces and construction of the furniture are available at the LAX series site.

Spotted at Apartment Therapy - Recycled Car Hoods, Hidden Televisions & A Dog

We're running around like crazy here at the office today, so our posting schedule is a bit off. However, we wanted to share a couple of things we enjoyed over at AT today.

These very unique recycled car hood tables from Re-Nest are created by Dallas Welder Joel Hester. He turns the colorful and rusty hoods of junkyard cars into industrial tables with a shine and finish unique to vintage metals.
Not everyone oohs and ahhs over big, flat screen TV technology. There are some who prefer to hide their gadget and gizmos, or at least have them blend into the design aesthetic of the room. Here's how designer Kelly Geisen created a great storage solution for her electronic gadgetry.
And, this picture was just darn cute. We had to post it, but if you're up for a challenge, see if you can identify the mod textile pattern design.

ISH 2009 - Hansa Latrava

We saw the new Hansa Latrava faucet at ISH and we took a couple of pictures, but quite honestly our own photos didn't do it justice. We saw these great photos today over at MoCo Loco and were inspired to revisit this faucet. Designed by Octopus Design in collaboration with Bruno Sacco, the shape of the water flow of the Latrava is meant to be a continuation of the hardware itself. The simplicity of the temperature controls and the water adjustment of the faucet adds to the clean lines and unique shape.
